An acronym used to describe lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning persons or the community. Avoid using the term​“gay community,” as it does not accurately account for the community's diversity.

In many ways, queer fiction and non-fiction are genres without a specific definition. For some, queer books are written by authors who identify as a member of a community under the queer umbrella. For others, they focus on queer people and experiences.

A lot of bookshops (remember, support your indie bookshop!), will have a prominent rainbow-based display stuffed full of queer books. But I said that LGBTQ+ fiction is not a genre. That's because LGBTQ+ stories can be, or at least should be, found in every genre: from crime to fantasy everything in between!
