The Supreme Court's decisions are published in official reporters known as California Reports and the decisions of the Courts of Appeal are published in the California Appellate Reports.

An unpublished opinion is a decision of a court that is not available for citation as precedent because the court deems the case to have insufficient precedential value.

What is an Opinion? When a judge hears a case and arrives at a judgment, an explanation or analysis of the reasoning behind the decision is frequently written. The analysis, called an opinion, is then published in the “Reporter” for the court. Significant decisions are published also in other Reporters.
